IMAGINED POTENTIAL WORLDS

A constellation of utopias emerged in the form of potential worlds imagined during the Haitian Revolution. They arose amidst a web of social and economic contradictions, armed conflicts, and political intrigues aimed at dividing the population. The resulting various forms of fratricidal power struggles prevented the realization of these potential worlds.

With this exhibition, we aim to contribute to a better understanding of these potential worlds imagined by Afro-descendants. It will allow us to explore how these alternative worlds are represented in contemporary Haitian visual culture through Vodou rituals, veves, dances, architecture, culinary arts, painting, sculpture, film, games, and literature.
